My wife and I are currently in the process of doing IVF (daughter has thal major). Short answer is yes, the Doctors are able to remove the eggs from my wife and then check to see which ones dont have the trait and which ones have the major. IVF is still hard, as in our case, but it is a good way to cancel out any chances of having a child with thal major.
