It's quite a ways off, but the next TIF conference has been announced. Start making your plans because I want to see as many of you as possible there. :happyyes
13th International Conference for Thalassemia patients and parents will take place in Singapore from the 22-26 February 2008
The TIF conference in January, 2006 was a great experience and the best part was meeting so many of you there. :biggrin So mark your calendars.
-
Finally, a conferwence so close to home! :biggrin I will try my best to go..
Hope to see you guys there too :cheer
-
I would love to go, and I've never been to any confrences but, I could never afford to fly to Singapore. So you'll have to count me out! :wah
-
Hippievamp,
Don't rule it out. You might be able to get sponsorship through TIF, CAF, or even possibly Novartis if you are on Exjade or desferal. There's plenty of time to plan, so keep all this in mind. We'll try to keep people updated as to who will be sponsoring patients for this conference. You might also check into sponsorship to the US TAG conferences, through CAF (Cooley's Anemia Foundation).

Wow! do these organizations really sponsor us patients for such an expensive trip? Why? Is this offer only for US residents only? cause' the only thing that's also holding me back is $$$Cha-ching$$$
Take care, Peace!

:biggrin Andy are you for real? That would be wonderful! Would you know who I would have to talk to or write to? If you know anymore or find out anymore please let me know.
I'd love to meet you all in Singapore!!!!!
-
Hippievamp,
You might also think about the US conferences that TAG puts on and apply through CAF for sponsorship. I don't think there is a date set for the next one yet, but I'll post as soon as I know if someone doesn't beat me to it. :wink I'm sure it will also be posted as soon as a date is set at

A question for those who have been sponsored to conferences. Does belonging to a local or national thal association help your chances of being sponsored?
-
I love meeting thals at the conference thats the best part the rest just sucks
I cant say right now whether I will be there or not but if I am then I will be doing this there.
-
I will try to be there with family.......
-
Dear Andy,
I don't know if it helps if you are from an associations or not. Maybe it would be helpful if you are a patient, parents or someone that deal closely with Thalassaemia to get a sponsorship.
Nur
-
Hi Nur,
What's the procedure for the patients? Is it only applicable to residents of US? Where and who do we contact to get a sponsorship?
Take care, Peace!
-
WOW! This is FAST!! The official annoucement has not even been announced yet! I was waiting for the official annoucement before posting this info here. Guess Andy beat me to it! :winky
In the midst of all these conference preparations now. :gaah
I really cant wait to see all of you together. I can arrange something for us to see who is who finally. :evilplan
Start saving now! You have slightly more than a year! TIF and the organisers are willing to sponsor quite a number of patients for conferences like this. It's not only for US residents. It's for patients all around the world. We want as many patients as possible to get the most out of this conference. Maybe once I get to know more about it I will let you guys know.
-
Dear Sajid,
You can apply for the sponsorship through the TIF website. It's not guaranteed to be accepted but you could try. There is a form that can be downloaded when there's an event and you just fill it up. It's for every one no matter where they live.
Does anyone know if it is possible to apply for sponsorship from other organisations like from pharmaceutical company or any other local business groups etc... How do you do it?

The conferences are a great way to meet fellow patients from all parts of the globe. Its amazing hearing different stories from patients, their stuggles, their achievements and their determination to be who they are.
I encourage those who can go to one of these to do so. It will really open your world to something not so complex as we all may think it is.
And to those that go to the next conference and sit around the foyer all morning watch out :bat :winky
Miaki.

Hi Dora,
I hope we can all make it to Singapore. It is a long time off but you're right. We should all start saving and planning.
Sigh. I recently figured out how much time I spend on this site every week by dividing my 100 plus days, by how many days the site's been open and found out I average about 40 hours per week on this site, in addition to spending about 60 hours per week involved in work for my store. And yet, I still can seldom find time for happy birthdays and welcomes and where are yous? I hope everyone knows that I do think of you even if I can't find the time to say hello. Each of you has had an effect on my life that has given me something that I had never even known existed and I thank you.
Looking forward to meeting you as many of you as I can in Singapore.

Andy i love to go there but :huh can i take my bike with me ???

Hi Akka,
Yes it is postponed to October 2008.
I wish there is some way that TIF can sponsor patients. My foundation is affiliated with TIF, I'll ask them about any sponsor program. If there is one, then I'll be there as well!!! :happydance
Hope to see you all there :pray
Take care, Peace!

Hi All
I'm VERY excited to tell you all that the conference is CONFIRMED! It's on 8-11 Oct 2008.
It will be held in Singapore. The official announcement will be out soon. By early next year you should hear from your National Thalassaemia Associations.
Keep a look out.
-
Thanks for the update, Eponine. Is there any info yet on hotel accommodations for the conference? I really hope I can arrange to come.
-
Wow! I do hope i could attend too, it would be exciting meeting all of you in person!!!!! Especially you Andy! :grin
-
Hi Lyanne,
One tip I can give to people wanting to attend is that TIF seems more likely to sponsor those who are active in their own local thal associations. I will try to keep everyone informed as to when TIF starts accepting applications for sponsorship. I hope everyone can go, including me (hehe). I think the best part of the conference is meeting everyone and I hope to meet you there. :biggrin
-
Well singapore is looking good for me so far :) Fingers crossed x
Its not far from australia and I am sure that most aussies would like to attend (including myself) then might go to the states after that...who knows...
:) :) :)

Hi Andy
Definitely! We will have a package with accomodation and if negotiations go well, we might have a special airfare with an airline carrier as well for participants of the conference. :cheer
Will keep u guys updated once details are firmed up. The conference will be held soon after the F1 race so things will be a little crazy.

Hey all
TIF will give out some sponsorships but I'm not sure how they will do it. Probably through the National Thalassaemia Associations in your country / state. Do keep a lookout for it.
-
:woot
I hope that it is true! Singapore! here I come!

Don't worry, you can always chat with us here. Furthermore we will be scheduling a group chat on 28th December, but it will be too late for you (11 PM) I hope that you can make it otherwise you can join the one that is to be held in January which will be at more convenient time for you.

Hi Jane
Are you a member of your national thalassaemia association? I'm sure they will try to help out with your finances if you express your interest in the conference.
