« on: April 05, 2006, 10:06:16 PM »
Hi I am Benjamin Woffindale:

I am a Patient in Florida. I used to go to NIH in Bethesda, MD. I go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I see Dr. Martha Rieman as my immediate heotological physician when I arrive, I am also seen by Dr. Derek Persons. He is the head of the Hemotological/Thalassemic Treatment.

To go the St Jude you need a referral from your hemo dr?  I am asking this because I am trying to take my son there and without a referral they won't see you.

If you did need a referral how long did it took you to be seen at St Jude.

I live in Maryland.
Thanks

Hello Ekala74 and Welcome to the site,

Is there a reason, why you would prefer going to St. Jude Children's?

Not sure about sickle cell but there are 7 center's Thalassemia Treatment Centers in US and the closest to your location would be Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Is your son on regular blood transfusion? I am NOT much familiar with Sickle Cell but I read this article which relates to Sickle Cell Spleen Sequestration, and think it might be helpful to you

Hi E,

As you know from my pm, I agree with Narendra. CHOP would be the best place to go for a consultation. The info for the sickle cell center is slightly different.

To make an appointment at the Main Hospital or to learn more about our studies, call 215-590-3423. To make an appointment in our Voorhees, NJ Specialty Care Center location, call 856-435-7502.

Your own doctor or center should be able to give you a referral. Consult with your insurer also.
