With Hemochromatosis, the prognosis is often bloodletting to reduce the amount of iron in the blood. It's also important to understand that a low iron diet can help and I would also suggest you start taking the supplement, IP6, as it is an iron chelator and can help lower the level. It is also a powerful antioxidant which can help protect your organs from the harmful effects of iron. Drinking tea with meals will also reduce the amount of iron you absorb from your food. Avoid high vitamin C foods like citrus fruits with meals because it will increase iron absorption. It's better to have citrus between meals. Green tea extract is another good iron chelating supplement. It is best to use these methods, rather than use chelating drugs.
