Recruitment in the US has gone slow, possibly because some misinformation about the goal of the trial. The goal is to cure patients. If the procedure works as expected, patients will be cured.
Is there any risk? Like if it fails, nothing will happen to the patient right unlike BMT? Regards.

The latest email from Pat G that came a couple days ago said that two patients have been accepted for the trial and the first will be dosed in December. Results will be known after 40 days.
Patients in the US: Patients are still being accepted for trials. If this works as expected, patients will be cured.

Thanks Andy, This is good news.
It is my understanding that total 10 patients are to be recruited at inital stage (Phase 1).

They definitely want more patients, but things were slowed by some misinformation that was put out by one of the doctors who is no longer allowed to speak publicly about the trial. Hopefully, we will see more patients apply.

We can expect the first patient to start soon, possibly in the next two weeks, with results known after about 40 days.

The first report from the Delhi conference is that Dr Sadelain announced that three patients have started! That is worth to cry. I really really hope that this surpasses all the boundless limits thalassemia majors had until now. Praying so hard. Also are all 3 Indian patients and their treatment is undergoing in India or USA? Keep us updated Andy. -P.
