Hi! My daughter is 3years old and suspected for alpha thalassemia trait. May I know more about it? And what foods can I and cannot give to her? Thank you

Alpha trait is carrier status. It also means one of the parents is a carrier. It may mean the hemoglobin level is slightly lower than normal. If so, folate and B12 supplements can help. Iron should not be given unless a full iron panel demonstrates iron deficiency. Most foods are okay to eat, although broad beans like fava beans should be avoided, as they can cause red blood cells to break down. A nutritious diet is recommended. In her future, she should understand her status so she knows any future partner should be tested before having children, as two alpha carriers have a chance of having an alpha major pregnancy, where the fetus does not survive.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
