IS THAL MAJOR COMMON AMONG AFRICAN AMERICANS?
(1/1)
miltswifey:
I hope i don't offend anyone but are there other black people with thal major living in the US?
Andy Battaglia:
Both alpha and beta thalassemia are found among Africans and people of African descent. The thalassemias are prevalent in the same areas of the world as malaria, affecting most ethnic and racial groups found in these areas. As people have migrated, the thalassemia genes have been spread to areas outside the malaria zones.
And, we have had at least two other African American members in our group. :happyyes

I did meet a young lady who had his 2 son's mis-diagonised Thal in their early childhood and were instead of proper treatment, prescribed Iron Medication which did more bad than good to those little kids. She was from Mississippi. So, I would say anyone can have Thalassemia(Major)
