The Latest Update on Gene Therapy for Thalassemia
In wich age it will be possible ?
How much it will cost me dear andy?
Bcz I wantz to free from thalassemia so u can tell abut gene therapy I will be possible or not bcz im going for bone marrow transplant ……..

Gene therapy is still under trails. There are two on going trails one in Paris and the other in the United States by Thalagen. This means they are not yet available for public, but since these trails are on patients, this means means that we will be waiting few years.

When we talked to Dr Sadelain back in 2006, he told us that age would not be a factor in gene therapy. However, the health is, so chelate and stay in good shape. The costs will be high like with a bone marrow transplant, at least at first. However, this cost has to be balanced against the long term costs of thalassemia treatment, which is quite high itself. The lucky ones will be those chosen for trials over the years before it is approved.

We strongly believe that the cure will be available for our children in their life span. I hope soon though.
