I am new to responding to these threads, so bare with me.
In finishing my story.....I have been married for 14 years. I have Thalassemia major and receive 1 transfusion every 2 weeks, and take Exjade daily. I am 41 years old and have twin identical daughters that are turning 12 years old next month. They were born 12 weeks early, but are very happy and healthy now. I live in the Midwest where there are not many doctors who are famililar with Thal Major. I sort of take my own care into my own hands. I rarely see my Dr., and just schedule myself for transfusions every 2 weeks. My girls are healthy and are only carriers of the Thal trait. They do not have it. I hope this is helpful.

Mother of twins,
I am so happy to hear your story. You and your girls are beautiful:) My son will also be turning 12 years next month so he is the same age as your girls. I am a thal minor and he is a thal major. I am glad to hear that you are taking good care of yourself despite doctor's lack of knowledge in your area.
All the best,
Sharmin
