Fussy Eaters

(1/2) > >>

Binita:
Hi all ...
My child is 2.6 yrs n he is a very fussy eater.....recently he started eating biscuits n most of the biscuits he likes has 4 mg Iron n he finishes the whole packet.....is it ok seeing the iron content.

Please advice. Thank you

Andy Battaglia:
Is there 4 mg of iron per biscuit?

Binita:
Hello Andy,

4mg for 100gms and around 8 biscuits will be there  and he will finish the whole packet.

What I am worried about is toddler needs 7mg of iron per day and as he is thal major we need to give him less Iron so not even 7 mg.

Please correct me if I am wrong....

Thank you
Binita

Wouldn't the iron in a biscuit be non-heme iron?
Nicole

Andy Battaglia:
Since most of the iron content is supplemental and added to the product, it would not be non-heme iron. In fact, the iron added to grain based foods is usually elemental iron (a fancy term for iron shavings). I question its value but do not question the harm that this can cause over years of use.
