Gene therapy

Hi everybody,
My sons doctor mentioned that gene therapy for thalassemia has progressed to the human trial stage in the US and UK. This is not the same as the French Hb E/ b thal trial earlier. I haven't been able to find anything on this online. Does anyone have any info on these new trials?

Hi Zahra,

Your son's doctor may be referring to the errant gene/sloan kettering trials, headed by Michel Sadelaine which are poised to begin once some issues are ironed out.  Hopefully we will have more information next month.
