Andy Battaglia:
I love seeing patients take control of their lives and turn things around as Pratik is doing.

Concerning vitamin D, we are learning what should be most obvious. Life on earth is possible because of the sun, and human life is no exception. Our bodies are designed to absorb massive amounts of D from the sun, but in today's world, few of us get adequate exposure to sun. D is intricately involved with most bodily functions. We cannot ignore it if we are to be healthy.

Sushil:
Hi Pratik,

My Name is Sushil and My daughter who is 4 Year old diagnosed with Thalassemia major. we recently got to know that she is Thalassemia Major. Though I am still working with Doctors to confirm whether she has Thalassemia major or Intermedia but meanwhile her doctor start hydroxyurea to her. so far she has only 4 blood transfusion done (BT start from Feb-13 onward) and no chelton. They told me that it will start after 7-8 BT.

I see that you are posting lot of information on site regarding supplement which should be given to children along with BT. can you please suggest me what are the supplement i should start giving to my child for her good health in future. I am not from medical line but don't want to Compromise anything for my child just because of my less knowledge.

the only medicine I am giving to my daughter are
1. Hydroxyurea (125 mg daily)
2.Bethadoxin-12M syrup (1 teaspoon daily)
3.Ostocalcium B12 Syrup ((1 teaspoon daily)
4. Folic Acid 5mg (evey alternative day)

Beside this I am planning to start Wheat grass powder to her(as its not available in capsule in delhi i guess) may be 1 teaspoon daily, also planning to buy IP6 but it will take some time.

Andy Battaglia:
I would suggest adding magnesium, either as a calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3 supplement, or magnesium alone to supplement the Ostocalcium. Magnesium also complements the hydroxyurea, helping it to work better, Something like Osteocare is good because it also contains zinc. I also suggest 100 IU natural vitamin E daily for its antioxidant effect.

Do not worry at all. We all are here to support each other.

I've seen some very deadly days in my life, even the days when I was asking to die instead of baring the unbearable pain due to osteoporosis. And look today, however, I'm still not reverted back exactly to how I was, but I'm slowly approaching that with keeping on my supplements regularly.

I agree that supplements can sometime be very tedious to be taken and mood swings can occur, but think of the brighter future they're going to bring.

Talking of March 2013, I could not sit on my joints and I had to immediately wake up as my leg joints felt extremely brittle. That's when the ordered D3 from Puritan came and I started to take it religiously combining it with calcium/magnesium. I did initially took mega doses of 20,000 IU/day for around a month or a slight more and currently taking 15,000/day until my next report which should be in around 5-6 days and will see if I need to adjust the dose or what.

And within a month or so of taking D3 and things regularly, oh boy my legs are now turning back like the old Pratik had at one time before Osteoporosis. When now I bend down on my knees to look for something under the bed or sofas or so, I don't get that much pain there neither I feel brittle and this is only improving day by day, every day.

So once you will start seeing the results, you'll yourself be quite motivated to take supplements. Remember, supplements are not optional for thals, make it your religion and promise to yourself to take it every day for yourself, for your betterment and your family, too.

I'd definitely recommend ordering some key supplements like D3 (Puritan has reduced prices and now you can get 200 softgels in one bottle instead of 100, previously and they've good buy 1 get 2 free offer running currently), Calcium, Magnesium Citrate, Milk Thistle, to be very least, if possible.

You'll definitely start noticing the difference.

I now officially throwed away my osteoporosis medicines (Risedronate - Risophos) after taking D3, otherwise I was taking them since past 3 and half years at every week and couldn't do without them. Actually it feels very great and even more great when you take the control of your body and start changing your life.

Remember, the control is in your hands!

Best,

-P.

Thanks Pratik.

You have moved me to tears.
love.

Pratik:
Hahaha Oh My God I cannot believe I did this just in less than 4 months which actually takes couple of years to achieve.

See my Vitamin D report that came today haha (check the attachment).

So I roughly remember in February mid, I had my D levels around 28 or so and bones were still brittle. That's when I decided to change my life and I ordered D3 from Puritan as mentioned.

I took mega doses of as high as 20,000 IU daily for 1 and half month and was on 15,000 IU since past week.

So my level surprisingly just shoot from 28 to 62.70 in less than 4 months!

Now, on the serious note though, Andy, my mother got scared, lol, and asked me to stop it for now.

Should I take at least 5,000 IU daily now that I've achieved the levels? Or should I discontinue it for 2 weeks or so?

What would be your input? Is this level kinda can put me in any danger?

And yeah, I'm going to kick Osteoporosis a** with all the force real soon!

And thank you guys (especially Andy) for the great compliments!

All the pat back really goes to Andy and other members of Thalpal due to whom I'm here at this stage today and am changing my life! Thanks everybody!

Regards,

-P.

Oops for some reason, the image gets reversed by 180 degrees but anyway, you get the idea.
