Autologus Transplant

(1/1)

Manal:
Dear all

Anybody has information of the current success rate of autologus transplant? ( in which the patient's own stem cells is being taken from him and then re-transplanted again and therefore there is no rejection as it is his own stem cells ).

Also what is the criteria to choose this kind of transplant ?

Hope anybody knows

Manal

Andy Battaglia:
Autologous (one receives one's own stem cells) transplants are of no use in genetic diseases because it would only deliver the same genetic problem back to the patient. Autologous is useful in patients undergoing chemotherapy that will destroy their bone marrow, as a means of quickly restoring the bone marrow after the chemo is over.

Manal:
Thanks Andy.  I thought it might help
