Title: Frustrated by the virus
Post by: Canadian_Family on March 24, 2008, 02:52:47 PM
Hello,

Sorry for not posting for the last few days. My computer has a worst spyware and virus attack and I was unable to do anything. I am still struggling with it despite having run anti sfotware and spyware programs. The virus name is dropper.lsx and so far no software was able to disinfect or delete it. Anybody got ideas as how to remove it.

Which anti-virus program are you using or have tried for removing this virus?

You can try Nod32.

 http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php

It's fast and updates are available couple of times in a day so you have latest protection with the new bugs.

Thanks for the replies. I have used Spybot S&D and Bell Security Manager, Total protection package(Symentec Anti Virus by Norton) and Anti Spyware program. I called a friend to come and take a look at it but so far no success.

I will try Nod32, hope that works. As of now I got everything blocked from my computer. The program can detect the virus but unable to disinfect or even quarantine it.

Thanks.

If Internet Explorer isn't working properly, do the following first.
First download Firefox browser, as the virus may have corrupted the Internet Explorer download program.  http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Once Firefox is installed open it and go to http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/activescan/default.htm?track=80383

Run the free scan and allow Panda to fix anything it finds.

Then download http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

Run this and allow it to clean anything it finds.

Then download the free version of  Avast at http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

When it is setting up it will ask if you want to run a boot scan. Say yes and after rebooting, let it run.

Let me know if any of this works or not.

Using Firefox as a browser rather than Internet Explorer is a safer practice as it is less vulnerable to viruses and spyware.

The program can detect the virus but unable to disinfect or even quarantine it.

If it can detect the virus and unable to clean; then probably a system critical file is infected which can't be worked on while it is loaded.

The best way to avoid such scenario is to keep your anti virus updated all the time.

Thanks Andy, Sajid and Zaini.

So finally got rid of the virus and spyware programs. The firefox browser is much better than internet explorer and safer as well. I specially liked the Panda security scan as a second opinion.
