Title: L-Carnitine
Post by: Sharmin on May 07, 2008, 02:37:12 AM
Andy,

Is L-Carnitine important for thal majors?  If so, what would be a good dose for a 25.5Kg child?  I'm not sure if any other the other thals are on it.

Thanks,
Sharmin

Hi Sharmin,

We have a thread on L-carnitine at http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=892.0;highlight=l-carnitine

It is often recommended since it extended the life of transfused red blood cells.

He can safely take up to 250 mg daily.

Thanks Andy,
This should be really helpful, silly me I was actually involved in that post  :biggrin

I guess there is so much info that I forget... :whaat :whaat

Andy, maybe this can be helpful to Zaini when her daughter is feeling lethargic before transfusions - as is the case with most thals when they are low.
