I have needles that have been donated and I am looking for people who can use them for desferal. They are the thumbtack style needles ( Baxter or similar) and they are all the same length, 12 mm (1.2 cm). These are a bit longer than many patients like but for those who can use them, they are free. Thanks to some kind people who have donated funds to our group, I now have some money to pay for postage. I will send them anywhere in the world, so if you think they will make it through Customs, please contact me and I will send some to you. Please, for patient actual use only. If you plan on selling them, do not ask. If I do not know you already, I may ask for some proof that a patient will be using them at no cost.
Contact me with your info and I will send some out ASAP. The return address will be Thalassemia Patients and Friends, so that may give them a better chance to clear customs. I did this some years ago and everyone received the needles, so let's give it a try. I have quite a few, so everyone interested, please do ask.

I want to make sure that people understand that these are long needles and I think are probably suitable only for adults who have sufficient body fat in the stomach and thighs to use these. These go in almost half an inch deep.

Hello andy i was using the thalaset and felt very good but they are expensive here so i cant use regurlarly. If you can send me it will be exellent. Are these 27G?
-
Hi Asim,
Yes, they are 27 g. 12 mm long. If you can use this size, send me your full name and address information in a personal message. These are the expensive needles of the same style as thalaset. I would be very happy to send some to you. I know that these do make desferal a little easier to take, as this type of needle does not hurt as much.
-
@andy thanks i used thalaset and i loved it unfortunately i couldn't afford it more then 1 week... so can you send me? i have a freind (sajid knows him) he doesn't use internet much but he will love it if he gets it because he couldn't afford it and borrowed one or two from me so he really deserves it too
-
I can send needles for you both. Please message me with complete address information.

For those who have not seen the thumbtack style needle set, this is what the needles from Baxter look like. As you see, the needle is on the right in the picture. The needles go straight in like a thumbtack at a 90 degree angle, instead of on a slant like butterfly needles. This holds them more secure and in general, they are less painful because they don't slip or move like a butterfly can when you move around. The needles I have are 12 mm, which is a long needle, so you do need a little padding on your tummy or thighs to use them. If you are skinny, you probably need a shorter length. I do not presently have any of the short type, but if anyone has shorter thumbtack style needle they wish to donate, please contact me. I have sent out several packages of these needles already but have quite a few more to send, so contact me if you can use them
