Title: Send Me Your Unused Thumbtack Style Needles
Post by: Andy Battaglia on June 27, 2008, 04:04:12 AM
Hello everyone,

If anyone has unused thumbtack style needles (Thalaset, Baxter, Norfolk etc) of any size or quantity, please send them to me. I will make sure they are sent on to people who can use them. Many people have switched to Exjade, so if you have needles you haven't used, please contact me. I have been sending out needles that were previously donated and it is working out really well and I have requests for even more. It would be great if we can come up with some of the smaller sizes, also. There is always a huge demand for this type needle so please help out if you can.

This is the style requested. Any length needle and any length tubing can be used.

Just as was the case when I asked for unused desferal, I have not gotten a single reply to my request for needles. This was sent as an announcement, so every member got the message. I know many people have switched from desferal to Exjade, but for some reason, no one wants to send their unused desferal or needles. The people who receive what I send are so completely thankful and are genuinely people who can use what I send. The needle program is going quite well and patients are receiving these packages within one week, even on the other side of the earth. But I need YOUR help. Even donations of cash will help because I can purchase needles at cost if I can raise enough funds. Norfolk has previously assured me that when it comes to helping patients who cannot afford proper needles, that they will give us the best price possible.

I am taking the time to prepare and mail these packages overseas, even though I have a very full workload already between my business and this group. Please take the time to mail me your needles and desferal.

Hi

I am fairly new to this site although I registerd a while back I  rarely get on but read your email about needing thumtack style needles.  I do have some supplies that I'd be happy to send you.  I'll check and see what I have, where can I send them? Also, do you need any 10 cc syringes.  I have a box of those as well if anyone is using desferal through a port these syringes can be used for saline or heparine flushes.

Thanks,
Christina

Thanks Christina! I just sent another batch of needles out today and I am running low. I can definitely use more needles. I'm not sure about the syringes, so if anyone can use them, let us know and I'll have Christina send those to me also.

I'm sending out the last of the needles. If anyone had extra needles, please send them to me. There is a good demand for them.

Hello Andy,

I have some needles now (about 90) but I don't know if we are talking about the same kind of needle. What is written in the box is: Hospira Venisystems* Butterfly 25. It sais that they are imported by Hospira Philippines, Inc and distributed by Euro-Med Laboratories Phils.Inc. The reference that appears in the box is P295 A05. They were made in April 2006 and have their expiration date in March 2011.

I enclose a picture of a similar needle, I have the orange ones.

The problem is that I live in Spain and I don't know if I'll be able to send it by post without problems. However, if they are needed I could talk to my hospital and try to send them from there.

Best regards,

Laura.

Hi Laura,

That type of needle is the butterfly needle, which goes in at an angle. I am looking for the thumbtack style needle that goes straight into the skin at a 90 degree angle. They are commonly called thalaset needles. The thumbtack style needles are a high quality needle that hurts less going in and stays in place better during activities. I don't know anyone who needs butterfly needles but if anyone does, please speak up and we'll see if we can get them passed along.

A picture of the thumbtack needles is in my original post at http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=1816.msg15260#msg15260
