Dear Kaye,
Welcome to the group, it has been a pleasure getting to know you from your posts. It seems like you are on a very good transfusion schedule - 45 days is a great interval between transfusions. It is also nice to know that you are studying and doing well. It makes my day to see a young person like yourself looking after your health and asking questions that will allow you to take good care of yourself.
I hope that you keeping your iron levels low and that your are taking supplements to protect yourself from iron damage.
Best of luck,
Sharmin

Welcome!! :) I am 20 with Beta thal major as well! :) I get transfusions every 8 weeks. If you ever want to talk about trying to be in college with this and dealing with stress feel free to message me! :)
-
Krissi,
Transfusion after 8 weeks is great, what is your pre transfusion hb usually?

I'm not sure, I will ask. I just got diagnosed so I am new with all this lol
-
Hi Krissi,
That is quite amazing - that you have just been diagnosed with thal major at your age. Most thal patients are diagnosed as infants - and usually require transfusions by 1 year of age. Your case is quite different - could you have been a thal intermedia who suddenly required transfusions? I am glad that you were diagnosed and that you are getting the help that you need :)
