Hello friends.my son is Thal major patient, inshallah i am planing for his BMT. but unfortunately he is the only kid I have,. Now I am going to do HLA typing from my Brother’s and sister’s kids. My son Consultant told me that it should be 100% match donor. Other wise don’t do BMT. Pls. guide that 60 or 70% is also considerable or NO thanks

Mumtaz,
Are you and your wife cousins? If no then there is not much chance of finding a match in your son's cousins.BMT itself is a very risky process, patients can get GVHD which is very difficult to deal with, one of our members Khalifa's son was fully matched with his own sister still his first BMT failed due to severe GVHD,so at least i would not advise doing unmatched BMT.A 100 % match is required.

no my wife is not my cousin, but she is the doughter of my elder brother's uncle(mamu) as my father done 2 marriages. one is the mother of my elder brother(step brother) and 2nd was my mother

It's very unlikely to get a match in this situation, but you can try if you want to.But before opting for BMT please consider every aspect of it.

Hi Mumtaz
With 100% HLA match you get the least risk but there is still risk so defintly when you use unrelated bone marrow transplannt or even unrelated stem cell transplant risk factors increase
But actually this subject is not just a simple question and answer, it is more complicated. A transplant team should evaluate your son and determin which class he is A, B, C according to his health and to evaluate too how many antigenes match from the donor too and give you the expectation of your case in particular.
Some unrelated transplants sucessed like Omega's daughter and other don't. So there is no answer to your questions other than if you would go for this, you should choose a very specialised and expierenced center fot BMT in thalassemia and get all the possibilities and risk factors based on your son's health with the unrelated donor. Then after all this you will be the only one to decide whether you will proceed or not. I know how hard is this decsion, god bless
Wish you all the best
