Cicci, who was one of the original members at Lisa's first thal group on Yahoo (technically still in existence) will soon be turning 59. Cicci is a transfusing thal intermedia, whose life was basically saved by the introduction of Ferriprox. Years of desferal use had caused some serious problems for Cicci and he credited Ferrirpox for giving him back his life. Cicci has also had a full personal life and has not allowed thal to hold him back.
People, it is possible to live a full life with thal. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I'll second that Andy. By the way, we have a member of this forum, a Greek, who is 56 years old and I happen to know many others in Greece who have turned 50.

I think my biggest surprise at the Dubai conference in 2006 was how many thals were there who were over the age of 40. We really need to let the world know exactly what is possible so that everyone from the new parents who are devastated by the prognosis given them to the teenager who thinks there is no point because he won't make it to age 30, to the aging thals who think they had a good run but now it's over, that with work, anything is possible.

Andy and Lena,
Thank you for these re-assuring posts. I am so happy to hear that there are so many thals of this age - may they be blessed with longer, healthy lives.

I wanted to make sure that people realize when they saw age 59 that everyone realized that Cicci is indeed a thal himself and not the parent of a thal. He is a parent and I believe he is also a grandpa.
