Title: Blood pressure
Post by: jade on July 18, 2009, 07:04:55 AM
Hi there

I wanted to know whether thal minors are subject to low blood pressure and whether the blood pressure may fall from time to time.
My blood pressure usually hovers around 10/6, but at times it drops below that.  for example today, it dropped to 8/4.8 and needless to say that I am shaking as a leaf.

Hi Jade,

I don't know if its related to thal minor or not,but me and my mother both often have low blood pressuer and we both are minors  :dunno i don't know for sure but it may be due to low hb and low oxygen in blood  ??? .

Studies have shown a correlation between thal minor and low blood pressure. It also does provide some cardio-protective effect. So, it's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it doesn't drop too low. Some salty foods can usually get it back up a bit.

I tend to have low blood pressure as well - as do my mother and maternal grandmother who all have thal minor.

Thank you everyone.

For me it is not linked to dehydration.  My BP is usually low but it just drops even lower from time to time without any apparent reason.

Our family has a high blood pressure problem. My parents (both minor) including me have high blood pressure. Looks like it is mostly inherited.

Hi Jade
I too have a low blood pressure. It`s usually 90/58. The only time my BP is normal is during pregnancies. :biggrin

Hey,

I too have low to very low blood pressure. These last two months it is going a liltle better, but the machine usually starts bleeping when it tested me.  :biggrin

It's not something to laugh about - I guess. I have a high blood pressure. Mum says I'm in shock too. That's prolly why Ibecame sick and couldn't control my temperature. Most of the times it didn't get higher than 35.4C.

That's all I wanted to say.

Take care, Dore

My dad and I (we are both thal-minors) both have low blood pressure.  I'm not sure about  my sister, who also has thal-minor, but I find it interesting that this is related to thalassemia.  Could having low blood pressure be a bad thing as I get older?
