Title: My husband and I both have Thal minor
Post by: Sunayna on August 14, 2009, 12:13:01 PM
Hello to all,

My husband and I both have been diagnosed with Beta Thal minor. The doctor began to say that when we have children there will be a 1/4 change of our child of having the Thal major.

When I found out that our children might have Thal major this had upset deeply. Ever since then I can't stop thinking if our children will be diagnosed with Thal Major.

I just wanted to if know if anyone and/or there partners both have Thal minor, I would be most grateful for your experience.

Hi,
amniocentesis now solved the problem. you can make it and know is the fetus is a thalassemia major or intermedia or not.

Dear Sunayna ,

Welcome to the forum,me and my husband both are thal minors, but we didn't know that until our daughter was diagnosed, its good that you have found out about your thal status before having kids, now you have two ways.Either you can do CVS,its a pre natal test which is done in 10th to 12th week of pregnancy,by getting a sample of placental tissue and testing it for the genetic dis order.Or you can do IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis). You can read about it in detail here,

Hope this helps :)

Zaini.
