Title: Beta Thal Minor and Pregnant
Post by: dan on September 11, 2009, 09:56:42 PM
Hi there
i am new here but thought that one must learn from other experiences.
I am curently 22 weeks pregnant and not feeling as good.
At 7 weeks hbl was 11.3
At 22 weeks hbl was 8.9
My dr did not want to make cbc test but i insisted. when dr figuered out i have low hbl she wanted to put me on high dose iron, but smart enough i refused and insisted on doing iron test whcih as i suspected it came back normal.
Therefore for all out there please insist on cbc and iron. Now will monitor my cbc and will rest as much as there is nothing to be done unless my hbl reach in the 7's then a blood transfusion is nessecery.
It might look like it is only "Minor" but it could have great affect on us.
Take care everyone

Hello Dan,

Welcome on the forum :flowers what you said is right,it may seem like its just minor but it can have a big effect on us,i hope you are taking folic acid and other prenatal supplements, because we have found that supplements are a big help for minors :) .

Hi Dan,

How much folic acid is in the supplement you are taking? Pregnant thal minor women should be taking from 2-5 mg daily. We have many posts about thal minor pregnancy. Narendra compiled a list of the threads which you can find at
