Hi,

I am very sorry to hear about your brother. My condolences to you and your family.

Unfortunately, heart failure is the leading cause of death in thalassemics throughout the world. I am in this group because my best friend, Lisa started it. She died from congestive heart failure in April, 2004. My friend Vittey from Maldives also recently died from the same cause. It is the most serious problem confronting thal health and there are no easy answers. More research needs to be done because it is not only iron overload causing these problems. 95% of thal majors have weakening in the left ventricle and this is not all due to iron overload. It is suspected that frequent transfusions play a role but answers need to be found if we are going to give thals a full life.

Low Hb and iron overload causes the heart to beat harder to keep up the oxygen demand of body from blood. Resulting in one tired and weak organ.

My condolences to everyone who lost their friend/family member this way  :(

Hi sydneygirl,

I know how hard it is to lose a precious brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope/know that your memories of your brother will always bring a smile to your face. People who are close to us leave wonderful memories behind. No matter if they were taken too early from Thal or anything else.

I am sure your brother will be with you always, looking down and protecting you from above.

regards,
youlla

SydneyGirl, I'm so sorry about the passing of your beloved brother.  May he rest in peace, and may you and your family heal with each passing day.   :hug

I am the only one in my family with Thalassemia Major, so I have not lost any loved ones from it.  However, I have lost many of my loved ones to other things, and it has been the most difficult thing to deal with in my life, as I'm sure it is for others to lose their loved ones.  :sadyup

I have lost many friends with Thalassemia, though.  :(

Hi Sydney girl,

My deepest regrets and condolences for your brother. I know how it feels to lose someone to thal  :hug
I have helplessly seen some of my thal friends go before my eyes. Words are but poor consolation when one is so sad. However, we are with you to support.

Take care of yourself.

Regards,
Namitha
