Post by: Andy Battaglia on August 31, 2006, 02:46:02 PM: Ashish is in the hospital waiting for surgery for some broken bones in his leg that he got after slipping on wet moss. He has also recently been ill with a high fever. He messaged that slow clotting time has delayed the surgery. We are waiting for updates and will share them if we hear anything.

Ashish's mom sent her thanks for your prayers. He has had his surgery today, and is now being monitored.

Hopefully, now everything goes fine... and he is on his way to recuperating.

Now, I hope Ash comes back sooon to catch up with all of us. :what

Ashish has been shifted from the ICU to the private ward today and there are no complications as of now. It will still be about a week for him in the hospital.

And the Good(or should I say Bad??) Boy from Bombay is showing good progress.

I had Fever 105 temperature which was sorted out very quickly but I realised after a cbc my platelets were low so I got admitted and got 14 units transfused in 3days.

further tests informed me that I had dysfunctional liver and was emanating amonia causing me nausea and vomiting.

well I was abt to leave my house for checkup with a gastroentologist it was raining ver heavily I stepped and slipped on concrete that moss all over.

I broke my femur in 4 pcs.
they could not operate immeditaely because the prothrombin time was not good, that is the time between bleeding to clotting.

The liver manages 13 factors of which 5 was not being by my liver. After 6 days of waiting I finally moved to a bigger hospital last week surgery was done under the cover of 64 frozen plasma packs and 7 packed cell
units of blood.

I am now the owner of a shiny new implant 5 scews 1 plate and tiny little wires holding them in thr right place.

BTW did I mention I bought self a brand new 19" flat widescreen monitor its so qewl

--> That is a scary scenario. I am glad it was quickly sorted out. Could you give us some tips so that other thals if in this situation can be cautious and 14 units tranfused !! --> Do we need to have more units given when thals have fever? --> Sorry for the ignorance, but I am not too knowledgable about Thal and Fever

I hope your leg heals sooner than you expect and you are back walking on your own

it was wonderfull to see so many posts thanks especially to mam & her husband for visiting me in the hospital. Shilpa for making numerous phone calls, Andy on the informative posts I will contribute more to that soon enough now that I know so much more. Miaki thanks for all the sms and I wam still hoping to meet you in November in cyprus.

my internet connection is down at home so I am keeping this post small my thumbs are getting tired, more later in a day or two
