Title: My hemoglobin is going up!!
Post by: Sproutsmama on April 08, 2010, 06:57:11 PM
Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share some encouraging news.

The last CBC I had done was in February and the result showed that my hemoglobin was 104 (if I'm correct, this would be the same as 10.4?).  That's improved from where I've hovered over the last year or so....with each of the pregnancies that I lost, my hemoglobin at the beginning of each pregnancy was between 96 - 99.  I've been taking 3mgs of folic acid for the last few months and I'm convinced that this is what has raised my hemoglobin!

My ferritin, as it turns out, is at 51....I was told that this is 'normal'....does that sound correct??

Yes, your ferritin level is quite normal. If it gets below 20, it might be reason for concern but you are doing great and I agree that folic acid is very important, especially during pregnancy.

Hi Elizabeth,

Glad to hear this. Perhaps you can benefit more if you try to take 5 mg folic acid and vit B12 shots every month.

Enjoy your pregnancy!
