Hi Joyce,

Bone marrow transplant is currently the only cure. This requires a matching donor, most often a sibling. You can read about a BMT experience at a thread you have replied to, at http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=3125.msg31246#msg31246

A gene therapy cure for thalassemia is coming, but this will take some time to go through trials and be perfected and approved.
