Title: Driving Privileges following episodes of Syncope or Pre-Syncope
Post by: Valkyria on January 17, 2011, 07:11:01 PM
Does anyone know about the legal implications around driving after reporting fainting or near-fainting episodes to a doctor?

A man who works part time for me has syncope and had to give up his license. However, he recently was able to get it re-instated. I will check with him and get some details about his case. This may also possibly vary from state to state.

I talked to my employee who suffers from syncope. He surrendered his license voluntarily (there was never any requirement to do so) but recently had it reinstated because he has never had an episode while seated. Because syncope causes a sudden drop in blood pressure to the brain, the episodes almost always happen while standing, and it is almost impossible to have problems while sitting. I don't think a random episode would disqualify you from driving.
