Title: High levels of ferritine
Post by: karoloydi on February 11, 2011, 07:17:16 AM
I had a blood test fine and my ferritine levels were on the high side.
Is that normal for people with thalassemia beta minor?

Thal minors don't usually have high iron unless either their Hb is quite low or they've taken iron supplements. Ferritin levels can rise due to factors other than iron load.  For example, any infection will raise the level. How high was your ferritin and did you have any other iron tests done?

My hemoglobin was 12.1. That was higher than my previous test. I checked my multivitamins and they had 150% of the daily recommended allowance which is 27mg, so that could be it.
