Title: Thal Intermediate mom

Hello , I am joining this group today in hopes that I will find other people to talk with abut thalassemia intermediate.  My daughter is 15 years old and has thal inter.  At 13 years old she started regular monthly transfusions and has had a splenectomy and gallbladder removal.  She is an incredible young women, very very strong. She copes well, better than me sometimes.  Looking forward to meeting others!

My daughter is an intermedia too but she started transfusing quite early,and our other moderator Manal's son is an intermedia and he has never been transfused.

Do share more with us about your daughter .

Hi Lorena,
My Son is 4yrs 9 months old E-beta thal.
He has been transfused once at the age of 3yrs 6 month when he was ill.
What is the Hb level of your daughter before started regular transfusion.
Is the HB improved due after spenectomy?
my son's Hb level is just above 8 for last one and half year.

Welcome Lorena. I am an Intermedia, but I don't transfuse anymore. My Hb is normally somewhere around a 9. I had my gallbladder out at 13 and I still have my spleen. I am 35 now and doing quite well. Feel free to ask questions, everyone here is a pleasure to know.

Don't forget to maintain the vaccinations for ur daughter post-splenectomy ;)

Bobby, what meds did u take that made u not transfused anymore? I'm a major...but I hope I can prolong the period. Thanks!
