Thalassemia Patients and Friends

If you would have asked me about Thalassemia two weeks ago I wouldn't have had a clue! But as of today I've been diagnosed with Thalassemia Minor and have no clue which parent is the carrier.
They found it because I am anemic and got very dizzy (scared me enough to almost call 911) then I went to the doctor and they ran the CBC test it showed I was anemic but not from a lack of iron. Then all my other levels pointed towards Thalassemia so the doctor ran another test to confirm and that came back positive.
So now where do I go from here -- it is a total mystery. I'm going to see my doctor again so he can help me decide how to move forward but I'm hoping I can get some answers here too.
