Hi everyone. I am a Thal Minor. I start to take 250UI vitamin E daily a couple weeks ago and notice a feeling of tireness in the morning when I wake up which I never experienced before. Internet search said high dose vitamin E would lead to tireness and other side effects. So I wonder if this is a side effect of my vitamin E intake as I wouldnt think of other particular reason of this tireness. Is anyone here has any experience to share regarding this? Thanks!

Dear Michelle,
250IU is not very high for vitamin E. The most important thing is to take the right type of vitamin E. If you take a synthetic form it can cause you to feel tired, whereas the natural form is a great antioxidant and it will protect you in many ways.

Thanks for your reply. I do take natural Vit E. I will stop for a few days and see if my tireness is caused by Vit E

Hi Michelle,
A large dose of vitamin E is considered to be more than 1000 IU daily. And actually, vitamin E is often recommended for fatigue and tiredness because of its role in the production of red blood cells. I have taken 400 IU daily for 36 years with no negative results.
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/126268-overview#showall
Constitutional and GI effects - Fatigue and weakness were reported in 2 case series in which vitamin E was administered at dosages of 800 IU/d. The symptoms resolved with removal of the drug. Another study reported emotional disturbances in several women taking the same dosages. These symptoms have not been observed in other large series.
Over and over when these "studies" are reviewed, we see words like however and statements like "these results have not been observed in other studies." Most often specifics of the studies like what type of E was used and other relevant factors are not released in these highly publicized studies which can't be confirmed by other studies. I feel the effect of these studies is to get people to question taking natural supplements that can actually help them, and perhaps that is the intent.

Andy,
How are we going to differentiate whether it is really a natural vit. e or synthetic? it is because all vitamin E that i found here is stated as natural vit. e..
im afraid i bought the synthetic vit. E, as I gave my children both below 3 years, 200 iu, 4x a week. Really hard to get 100 iu.
Please advise- anyone?

Natural Vitamin E is d-Alpha Tocopherol. Synthetic will say dl. Look for something like this
Vitamin E (as d-Alpha Tocopherol plus d-Beta, d-Gamma, d-Delta Tocopherols)

Thanks Andy-
If i gave them this kind of Vitamin E 200 i.u-
d-alpha tocopherol
d-gamma tocopherol
d-delta tocopherol
d-beta tocopherol
and vitamin E succinate
What do you think, please advise and thanks.
