Post by: adeel on December 20, 2011, 07:29:31 AM
Dear all
This is my younger daughter hb electrophoresis report
Hb a = 89.8  (98 - 100)
Hb a2 = 4.2 (1.5 - 3.5)
Hb f = 6% (about 8% is normal range for 6 months old)
Hb = 9.8 (9.5 - 13.5)
She is 6 months old. Yesterday i met a doctor and i show him the reports and he said i have to repeat the test after 6 months he thinks she might be an intermediate i am very upset and confused right now i am feeling some thing grab my heart .i havent met her hemo yet so what are your opinion about this report plz prey for me

Dear Adeel,

From the report its looks to me that she is minor, though I am not expert, its just my feelings.
do both the parents have electrophoresis report.If both the parents are minor then she may be intermedia or minor, but if one of them is only minor she must be a minor.

Regards,
Dip

Adeel,

I agree with Dip. The only thing that even suggests thal minor at this point is the higher than normal HbA2 and the total hemoglobin level in the thal minor range. In 6 months, the HbF level should be known and if this is high, it will pretty much confirm thal minor. There is nothing in this report that would suggest anything worse than minor. An intermedia would have a much lower HbA and higher HbF.
