Is there 4 mg of iron per biscuit?

Hello Andy,

4mg for 100gms and around 8 biscuits will be there  and he will finish the whole packet.

What I am worried about is toddler needs 7mg of iron per day and as he is thal major we need to give him less Iron so not even 7 mg.

Please correct me if I am wrong....

Thank you
Binita

Wouldn't the iron in a biscuit be non-heme iron?

Since most of the iron content is supplemental and added to the product, it would not be non-heme iron. In fact, the iron added to grain based foods is usually elemental iron (a fancy term for iron shavings). I question its value but do not question the harm that this can cause over years of use.

Perhaps you can look for bisquits at an organic food store - they are often not iron fortified.  The bisquits your child is eating are helpful to children who need iron - but not for thalassemia children.

Off topic question, but does bisquits refer to cookies in this case? Bisquits here in the U.S are huge and not that healthy so I can't imagine a little child could eat so many.

Hi All,

Thank you all for yo r advice. and yes Biscuits are not healthy but a child can easily finish off 1 packet if they dont eat anything else and gets stubborn on not listening to parents. But thankfully he has stopped eating biscuits from one week but is a very very poor eater of healthy food.
