Title: Washed RBC and Filters
Post by: pmeet on April 01, 2012, 07:09:56 AM
Can someone please highlight saline washed RBC benefits and does it make using filter unnecessary ?
What benefit does filter bring?

Also if doctor asks for 140 Ml of washed RBC, should we account for filter blood wastage and get 140+30 ml  blood volume instead?

1.Using filter is advisable as it reduce the chance of reaction due to blood transfusion, 2. Washed RBC is preferred when there are frequent reactions even after using filter. 3. You can use both these if are available to you easily and you afford it if there are frequent reactions. You must consult your health care professional as i can give you just the basic idea. FYI here in my city patients even don't use RBC or RCC component but they use just PCV component and still no reactions :dunno
