Title: Exjade dosage for 2 years old

Hello,

I have a question about the EXjade. My 2.5 year old son is to begin taking Exjade and I'm a bit concern. His dosage will be 1 pill a day (I believe is 250mg). My question is: isn’t the dosage too high for 2 years old to begin with. His doctor is on vacation till the end of the month.  His Ferritin was 1300 two weeks ago. All those side effects are scaring me so much. I don't know what to do. I was thinking to give him the half of it till his dr. comes back. Please advice.

 Usually dosage is calculated asper body weight in exjade also 50mg of medicine per KG of body weight.

 For example your son's weight is 10 KG then he needs 500 mg per day.

I have tried giving half a tablet (Of Kelfer) instead of the regular dose for my niece and it worked fine for her. Once, her body got adjusted, we started the regular dose and all is well so far

Although, this was with Kelfer, same can be done with Exjade.

hi emilia,
i was scrolling through old posts and saw that your 2 year old is on exjade.  i'm in sydney and the doctors aren't recommending exjade for my 5 year old until he is at least 6.

i am curious to know if it is being effective with your 2 year old and is lowering the ferritin levels and whether she went through any of the side effects.

When iron chelators are prescribed it very much dpends on its pharmacology and chemistry thats why the dosage may differ from chelator to chelator. Desferal, L1 and Exjade are very much diffrent in their action. Thats why its very important take right amount of drugs specially L1 and Exjade. I suggest to ask your doctor if you have any question about the dosage, dont change by yourself, because its very important in this particular drug specially.
