Symptomatic spleen enlargement and iron overload.
I find I cannot read small print as well as I used to in a relatively short period of time. Any correlation?

I am thal major, with diabetes melitus. When I was diagnosed with diabetes and given insulin on day one, I almost had my vision full normal and didn't needed to wear specks/glasses but immediately after 2-3 days my routine of wearing it started. I believe diabetes for me is major reason of my impaired vision and I hope that if it lowers down, my vision would be improved too.

I think that iron overload can have negative affects on all bodily functions - what form of chelation are you using? It may be advised to use combination chelation as one form (especially if it is desferal) can have sensory side effects - which are usually reversible.
Speak to your health care provider about combination chelaiton - either desferal and L1 or desferal and exjade together. If you are on combination chelation constant monitoring is essential.
Best,
