Title: Spinach and thalassemia minor.
Post by: girl_musk on February 27, 2013, 01:34:22 PM
Hello Andy and everyone else, my dad has thalassemia minor and noticed that when we have spinach he tends to get a nose bleed.

Why does he get nose bleeds after eating spinach?

That's the exact opposite of what spinach would do. Spinach is high in vitamin K which is necessary for blood clotting. In fact, it is listed everywhere as a remedy for nose bleeds. Is his vitamin C intake adequate? Taking a C supplement can strengthen the blood vessels and make bruising and nose bleeds less likely.

Thank you for reply,

This is very strange, I was shocked to hear that having spinach should be the complete opposite and that it should stop nose bleeds.

My dad does have vitamin c intake.

His nose bleeds mainly after eating spinach, i have tested this.

However, i failed to mention that when eating his spinach, the spinach is eaten with Greek yogurt.
