Title: Thalassemia Minor and Dengue Fever
Post by: Sharmin on May 02, 2013, 03:48:53 AM
My mom, age 58, has thalassemia minor.  She returned from a trip from India last week - she has been feeling weak and very achey since her return.  Results from a blood test done earlier in the week - indicate that she has dengue fever.  We are all quite concerned,
is there additional risk to her because she has thalassemia minor?

Thank you kindly,

Sharmin

There would be no additional risk from thal minor. It can be more of a danger to majors because they often have a compromised immune system. I hope she recovers soon.
