Title: folic acid for 4 years old
Post by: Teng on April 06, 2014, 03:30:25 AM
Hi Thal friends,

My son is a 4-year-old alpha Thalassemia intermediate. He has been taking folic acid since he was diagnosed when he was 2. His doctor recently increased his dose of folic acid from 1mg to 5mg daily. Is this the right dose?  ???Anyone knows?

Thanks.
Teng

It is the best thing for alpha thal and really the main thing that can help. Your doctor has instructed you correctly.

Thanks Andy.

My friend' child in China, who is a Thal Intermediate, was prescribed as much folic acid as my son got. That's why I am confused.

Folic acid is essential for building red blood cells. That is why it is recommended for thals.
