Title: Am I Thal carrier?

Hey folks,
This is Fahim from Pakistan(Asia). I was suffering from fever and cough for more then 3-4 days, and whenever i suffer fever i have this coughing problem which lasts for very long. This time the doctor asked me to go for blood tested and my blood test results are

Haemoglobin 14.5 g/dl
Haematocrit 45.8 %
R.B.C  6.45  x10E12/L
M.C.V  71.0 fL*
M.C.H  22.5 pg*
M.C.H.C 31.7 g/dL
W.B.C  5.7 x10E9/L
Neutrophils 58.9%
Lymphocytes 21.6%
Eosinophils 0.5%
Monocytes 18.8%
Basophils 0.2%
Platelets 149 x10E9/L
ESR (Westergren) 16mm/1st hr

PERIPHERAL FILM:
ANISOCYTOSIS, HYPOCHROMIC, MICROCYTIC
? THALASSEMIA MINOR
SUGGEST HB ELECTROPHORESIS
MONOCYTOSIS
? CAUSE
CLINICAL CORRELATION IS ADVISED.

The doctor didn't say anything but report mentions "thal minor", so all i wan't to know is that am i thal carrier or not?

You are most likely a thal minor. The hemoglobin electrophoresis test is suggested and will confirm if you are a carrier.

Thanks andy, what next? I mean, do i need to give this any special care like medicine or diet? any risks?
