Hello,
My daugther was getting 300CC of blood every five weeks uptill June 2006, her hemoglobin was 115 after five weeks so the doctors decided she needs less blood. The amount transfused in July and August was 275CC and she was doing HB of 110 after five weeks. Now she is getting 235CC every five weeks and still showing HB of 110 after five weeks. We are waiting for the next appointment to see if she will be further reduced. Is this normal or has anybody experienced this situation before.
Thanks for your help.
Regards

Hi,
I think it is just coincidence that you are getting the HB same as before even with less blood. It is likely that the each bag you are getting is better than the previous one and thus gives the same HB with the reduced quantity.
We have discussed in other threads that some blood units can give more HB than others as they might contain younger RBCs from the donor and thus last longer. You can read it here: http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=191.msg1014#msg1014 (http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=191.msg1014#msg1014)
Well, let's see what happens when you go next.
Take care, Peace!
