Hi everyone, I am a 51 year old female that has suffered from fatigue my whole life. When i was a child I was told I had" borderline" Mediterranean anemia... maybe the doctor meant I was a carrier, a minor?? Here are some blood test results.. How do these look? What else should i have tested to seem about about anemia? (Total iron binding capacity was mentioned in other posts as well as other things, which i don't remember)

All the readings are withing normal range except Vit D which is a boundary line case. Since your MCV is 89.1, in my opinion you being a thal carrier or minor is also ruled out. Even your RBC is with in the normal range. Usually Thal carriers have MCV less than 80 (55- 75) and have slightly elevated RBC. Fatigue and tiredness could be setting in because of lack of Vit D.

In addition to vitamin D, I would suggest taking a sublingual (under the tongue) B-12 supplement, as well. Even though your level is normal, it should be higher. Recent studies have shown that thal minors should strive for a B-12 level on the high end of normal. You should also consider taking folate in the form of L-methyfolate. Try to get your D level up above 50. All these together will help with tiredness and fatigue.
