I was wondering if anyone can shed light on Life Insurance for thalassemia major patients. I was thinking of getting a life insurance policy but I am not sure if any company would offer it and how they rank thal major. I did an online application with MetLife (no medical exam required) and it asks to pick your health status from a drop down. The description of those health statuses value cholesterol, family heart history, height/weight, blood pressure and thats about it. In terms of those questions i am in excellent health. just doesnt make sense. anyone have ideas/experience?

Even I faced a similar problem. Actually I'm employed in a US based MNC in chennai location. And I'm covered under UHC medical insurance. Coming 24th I'm getting Total Hip replacement operated on my right hip for my osteoarthritis. And I've requested for a cashless claim from UHC for my surgery. But UHC has denied my cashless claim stating
"Clause No: 4.4.16 - Genetical disorder and stem cell implantation/Surgery"
"Since the complaints mentioned of the patient are related with Beta Thalassemia hence this case is been denied under cashless".
Guys, Please let us know whether patient with Thalassemia suffering from Osteoarthritis are eligible for medical claims in UHC.
Anyone faced similar scenario. Whether post hospitalization claim is allowed?
Regards,
Thamizhan

@Tamizhan,
In India no policy is available either personal or mediclaim etc.
Now, if u r not eligible for cashless treatment, ur co may reimburse the medical / surgical expenses.

I would ask CAF about this. They may have some knowledge about whether or not thal is a factor in life insurance policies. Contact Eileen.
