Hey guys! I have two questions. My wife has beta thalassemia minor. This may be a little out there, but would blood doping or EPO have any positive effect in regards to better health?
My second question is - My wife began IVIG in November and was infused once a month for 5 months. After routine blood tests she now has low HCT, MCV, MCH, and MCHC. These levels were all high prior I believe due to having thalassemia. Her RBC count is low also when normally it's high . Her hemoglobin was low prior and is still low. What could be the reason for this? How could the IVIG be effecting the thalassemia? We are on a break now from the IVIG also for the meantime. Any answers and or input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys!!!!

IVIG can cause hemolysis and a lowered hemoglobin level. You can see a short article about this at http://www.medpagetoday.com/HematologyOncology/Anemia/34597
It would depend on how low the Hb goes whether or not any action is needed.
