Title: Need some advice on nutrition for my daughter with beta thalassemia
Post by: lomoc on September 15, 2016, 04:39:37 AM
Hi all,

My daughter has below symptoms. She is 4 years old and inherited genes (beta thala) from me. I do need some advice on nutrition and supplements for her. Thank you so much.

fatigue, weakness, or shortness of breath
a pale appearance or a yellow color to the skin
irritability
slow growth
dark urine

Hi Hanh,
Has your daughter's hemoglobin and iron been checked recently?  I have a little guy 2.5 year old, with thal minor, I give him a liquid vitamin, Poly Vi Sol.  I sneak it in his juice, the vitamin does have iron, but he refuses to eat meat at this point, so I think he needs it.  Is she eating well?  Have you visited with a pediatrician about her symptoms?

Best wishes,
Crissy

Diet is very important. The child should be encouraged to eat fresh fruit and vegetables. The child also needs better hydration, more water.

What is her Hb level? Is she a picky eater?
