Title: Thalassemia management in Doha
Post by: vampirebaby on March 16, 2017, 10:54:56 AM
Hi all,

I live in Melbourne and Ive recently received a job offer in Doha, Qatar. I have a 6 year old daughter with thalassemia major. Before we can make any decisions about whether to accept or not, I need to know if anyone with Thal in this forum is managed in Doha?

I havent had much luck finding a transfusion centre in Doha on the internet. Also, is desferal available there? What are the costs involved in getting a transfusion there?

Help will be majorly appreciated!!

Thanks alot
Sameet

I'm checking into this. It turns out that an old friend from Maldives has been teaching at Qatar University. I have messaged him on Facebook and will reply once I get some information.

Hi,
I found several research papers on thalassemia from Hamad General Hospital online. Also found they do have pediatric hem/onc doctor.
Maybe contact them and ask?

My friend supplied this information. He said treatment is very good in Qatar.

In Qatar major Hospital is Hammad Medical Coperation, they have several hospitals in diffrent areas and under HMC they have blood bank. I am not sure of any thalassemia society here as such , but hematology department of HMC look after thalassemics in the country. Here the hospitals are CAP accredited and they have state of art facilities.
