Title: Urine red colour
Post by: pareshdas1985 on November 25, 2022, 04:55:09 AM
The color of my five-year-old's urine is dark pink/red since two days ago, I want to know if it is normal or anything else wrong. She has been taking Desirox 500MG from the last 3 years and Kelfer 500MG one tablet a day since last week. Her latest Ferritin is 2200. Please help.

Hello Pareshdas, how long your little one is on Kelfer and Desirox? Kelfer is known to take out the iron through the renal tracts, while Desirox uses the intestinal tract. This means the Excretion by the reanl tracts will be colored like rust, the excretion of the intestinal trakt is more a dark brown. Both can change dayly, depending what you will give to eat and how much to drink. There are also some natural products helping to eliminate the excess of iron in the body. One of them is Spirulina.
Hope it could help.

God bless you

Chelators remove iron through urine and/or feces, depending on the chelator. Iron turns urine red to orange. It is normal and necessary when taking a cheltor that removes iron through urine. Even chelators that remove iron primarily through feces can also remove some iron through urine. The darker the urine, the more iron that is being removed.
