Maybe I'm biased and a star worshiper but I have to say Dr Vichinsky is the top expert in the world.

I agree Shikha. Dr Cohen is also one of the top docs. We are blessed in the US with several of the very top thal doctors in the world.

John Wood in UCLA Children's Hospital gets a lot of praise here, but I have never met him or know people who go there.

.. and ofcourse there are so many good doctors in the UK, who are doing such wondeful job with Thalassaemics.. infact they deal with Thal, more than the doctors in the USA.
Foremost, who comes to my mind is ofcourse.. DR. Prof. Sir David Weatherall.. who has been my saviour.. :)

While we're on this topic, I'd like to point out that two of these top doctors, Dr. Elliott Vichinsky (CHO) and Dr. John Wood (CHLA), are speaking at the

2nd Annual Thalassemia Support Foundation Conference, April 21st, 2007 at the
Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn
4222 Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood, CA 91602-3399

Both are well worth hearing and meeting if possible.
