Title: mchc
Post by: vertigo on February 24, 2007, 02:26:50 AM
Does anyone know if a high mchc is a result of thal. minor.  I have read that a "high" number is referred to spherocytosis.  Is spherocytosis common to thal minor or is it a completely different condition? thanks, angie

Thal causes a lowered MCHC. A high count is one sign of spherocytosis, but is most often the result of the testing of the blood. Warming of the blood will often result in a more accurate result.

Spherocytosis is a completely separate condition from thalassemia but like many things can occasionally co-exist with thal.
